Difference between power adapter and voltage regulator

As smart devices occupy an increasingly important position in people’s lives, with the gradual increase in functions, the problem of power consumption of devices is gradually exposed, and people are becoming more and more accustomed to carrying power adapters, that is, People often say the chargers. What is the difference between this power adapter and the regulator?

If there is no load, the voltage of the power adapter is higher than the value it has indicated, and the regulator has always been this value. The difference between power adapter and voltage regulator:
1. The power adapter is a power supply conversion device for small portable electronic devices and electronic appliances. It is generally composed of a casing, a power transformer and a rectifier circuit. According to its output type, it can be divided into an AC output type and a DC output type. Straightforward can be understood as a voltage converter, such as converting a 110-220 volt AC voltage into a fixed DC voltage.
2. The regulator is a device that stabilizes the output voltage. The regulator has a constant voltage, a control circuit, and a servo motor. When the input voltage or load changes, the control circuit samples, compares, and amplifies, and then drives the servo motor to rotate, so that the position of the carbon brush of the regulator changes, and the output voltage is kept stable by automatically adjusting the turns ratio of the coil.

The power adapter has a higher voltage without load. If you pick up the load, you will find that its voltage will drop. This is due to its own limitations, just to provide a suitable voltage to the load. The main function of the regulator is to regulate the voltage. It will stabilize the voltage passing through it to a certain extent. If it exceeds or falls below this value, it will have an action. The power adapter does not have this effect.

They can be distinguished according to the use situation. If the load power supply requirements are not high, they can be used interchangeably. However, if the load requires a high power supply, even if the voltage of 1V does not change, then the regulator must be used. Otherwise, you should burn the power without burning the load.
